Plant a Tree, Adopt a Family Program
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Plant a Tree, Adopt a Family Investment Program is Green Bridge’s flagship agroforestry initiative, designed to connect long-term capital with farming families through structured land stewardship.
Under this program, farming families are partnered with designated land areas where trees are planted, maintained, and monitored over time. Families act as long-term stewards of these areas, combining tree care with livelihood activities that support income continuity and land productivity.
Rather than one-time planting efforts, the program is built around sustained care, clear stewardship responsibilities, and long-term outcomes. Implementation is carried out in close coordination with local partners to ensure that activities are practical, accountable, and aligned with community priorities.
PROGRAM FOCUS AREAS
This program focuses on integrated agroforestry and livelihood support through the following components:
Tree Planting and Agroforestry Systems
The program supports the planting of trees—including bamboo, fruit-bearing species, and selected native varieties—integrated into productive land use systems. These agroforestry approaches allow land to remain economically productive while supporting ecological restoration.
Family-Based Land Stewardship
Participating families serve as stewards of assigned land areas. Stewardship responsibilities include tree maintenance, land care, and adherence to agreed management practices that support long-term outcomes.
Livelihood Continuity and Income Support
Livelihood support is structured around ongoing stewardship activities. This approach helps families maintain income continuity while contributing to land restoration and long-term environmental goals.
Long-Term Monitoring and Accountability
Tree survival, land condition, and stewardship activities are monitored over time in coordination with local partners. This ensures transparency, responsible implementation, and sustained impact beyond initial planting phases.
WHO THE PROGRAM SERVES
The Plant a Tree, Adopt a Family Investment Program is designed for:
Farming families engaged in agroforestry and land stewardship
Communities managing agricultural or degraded land
Partners seeking long-term, place-based environmental and social impact
Institutions supporting responsible land restoration initiatives
SECTOR & IMPACT
Sector Themes
Agroforestry and Sustainable Land Use
The program integrates tree planting into productive landscapes, balancing environmental restoration with livelihood needs.
Rural Livelihoods
By linking stewardship with income continuity, the program supports economic stability for farming families.
Environmental Restoration
Tree-based systems contribute to improved soil health, biodiversity, and long-term land productivity.
Impact Areas
Sustained Tree Survival and Land Restoration
Ongoing stewardship increases tree survival rates and supports meaningful land restoration over time.
Improved Livelihood Stability for Farming Families
Structured support linked to stewardship activities helps families maintain more stable and predictable livelihoods.
Enhanced Land Productivity and Resilience
Agroforestry practices improve soil condition, water retention, and resilience to environmental stress.
Long-Term Community Stewardship Capacity
Families gain experience and capacity in managing land responsibly across multiple years.
WHY THIS PROGRAM MATTERS
Tree planting initiatives often fail when they focus solely on planting without long-term care.
The Plant a Tree, Adopt a Family Investment Program addresses this gap by placing stewardship at the center of implementation. By supporting families as long-term caretakers of the land, the program helps ensure that trees survive, land recovers, and livelihoods remain viable.
This approach creates durable environmental outcomes while supporting the people who live and work on the land every day.
